TVK Leader Condemns Dalit Woman's Death, Demands CBI Investigation

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Aadhav Arjuna has strongly condemned the death of a 25-year-old Dalit woman in Tiruchirappalli, alleging it was a "forced murder" and demanding an immediate Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe. The political backlash against the ruling DMK government has intensified significantly following the tragic incident.

"This Is Forced Murder, Not Suicide"

Aadhav Arjuna, who serves as TVK's General Secretary of Campaign Management and is a candidate from Villivakkam, spoke to ANI reporters about what he described as a "deeply disturbing case that raises serious concerns about the safety and dignity of women." He stated unequivocally, "This is not a suicide; it's forced murder."

The TVK leader made serious allegations against Chief Minister MK Stalin and Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin, claiming they pressured the Trichy police to remove the official statement regarding the case. "We question why information related to this case, including the official police statement, was reportedly removed," Arjuna said. "If such actions have taken place, it raises concerns about transparency, and it is done because of the pressure given by Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin and DyCM Udhayanidhi Stalin to the Trichy police department."

Legal Action and Caste-Based Allegations

Arjuna announced that his party would be filing a petition in the High Court seeking a CBI investigation into Sindhuja's case. Additionally, he revealed plans to approach the Chief Election Commissioner in Delhi to address the matter during the ongoing election period.

The TVK leader made specific caste-based allegations against the DMK, stating, "Sindhuja is of a different caste. She is not an OBC or BC. DMK is always against the Dalit people. The DMK office bearers totally ignored her and used unparliamentary words against Sindhuja. Initially, the DMK Union Secretaries attacked Sindhuja."

Expressing his disappointment with the broader political response, Arjuna added, "We are ashamed. In Tamil Nadu, no actors and senior leaders talked about this Sindhuja murder. We want justice. The Income Tax and the ED are still quiet and are not activated."

Political Condemnation Across Parties

The incident has drawn condemnation from multiple political figures across Tamil Nadu. On April 15, TVK leader and popular actor Vijay posted on social media platform X in Tamil, stating, "The DMK's 8,000-rupee coupon drama has led to the heartbreaking news of a sister taking her own life in Trichy Mannachannallur, a report that sends chills down the spine."

Vijay alleged that the DMK is employing "anti-democratic" methods to "clinch a win by fooling people" in the upcoming 2026 assembly elections. He directly questioned Chief Minister Stalin, asking, "Today, as this anti-democratic 8,000-rupee coupon distribution takes place, unable to bear the vulgar rhetoric of DMK members, a sister in Trichy Mannachannallur has ended her life due to mental agony — doesn't this news shake your conscience, Stalin sir?"

BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran described the incident as "utterly shocking," while former state president K. Annamalai claimed that DMK supporters had "assaulted" the woman and used "obscene language" against her.

Allegations of Election Irregularities

Arjuna also raised objections to alleged distribution of money during the election period, stating he would file a formal complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu, Archana Patnaik. "Attempts to influence elections through money power will not succeed," he asserted. "The people of Tamil Nadu are seeking change, and their democratic choice will prevail."

Details of the Tragic Incident

Sindhuja, a 25-year-old Dalit woman from Vaazhaikattai village in Manachanallur, died by suicide on April 14. According to police reports, DMK workers allegedly refused to give her gift items being distributed during election campaigning on the night of April 13. The workers reportedly pulled her hair, used obscene language, and assaulted her with a broomstick.

The following day, Sindhuja pushed her husband out of their room, locked the door, and hanged herself. Police have booked nine individuals in connection with the incident, with six arrests made so far.
