UDF Expresses Strong Confidence for Upcoming Kerala Assembly Elections

The United Democratic Front in Kerala is expressing full confidence about its performance in the approaching assembly polls. Muslim League general secretary P K Kunhalikutty made this clear statement on Tuesday. He emphasized that the decision of Kerala Congress (M) not to join their front will have absolutely no bearing on their electoral prospects.

No Formal Talks with Kerala Congress (M)

Addressing persistent questions about whether the entry of Kerala Congress (M) into the UDF remains a possibility, Kunhalikutty provided a straightforward clarification. He confirmed that no formal discussions are currently taking place between the two parties. This statement comes directly after Kerala Congress (M) chairman Jose K Mani declared on Friday that his party firmly stands with the Left Democratic Front.

"We maintain an open-door policy for organizations and individuals sharing our political ideology," Kunhalikutty explained during the UDF industry conclave sidelines. "Naturally, the matter of Kerala Congress became a topic of public discussion. But we never engaged in talks about such a possibility since they are aligned with another front."

Recent Electoral Performance Boosts UDF Morale

The Muslim League leader pointed out that Kerala Congress (M)'s recent electoral setbacks in panchayat polls have shifted public attention. Their position within the LDF has become a subject of debate, rather than a priority concern for the UDF. "Whatever stand they take, it won't have any effect on us," he noted firmly.

Kunhalikutty highlighted the UDF's "successive victories" in recent local body elections. These wins have provided the front with a significant boost as they enter the assembly poll season. The coalition approaches the elections with renewed self-assurance and momentum.

UDF Focuses on Economic Solutions Through Industry Conclave

Currently, the UDF is prioritizing practical solutions to address the immediate crises facing Kerala. The front, where the Indian Union Muslim League serves as a chief constituent, is organizing an industry conclave as part of this effort. This initiative aims to present a sophisticated alternative to the current government's economic policies.

Opposition leader V D Satheesan is leading this important endeavor. The conclave seeks to develop actionable strategies for the state's economic challenges.

Seat Sharing Discussions to Begin Later

When questioned about potential seat adjustments, Kunhalikutty indicated that formal talks will commence only when leaders convene in Thiruvananthapuram. This meeting is scheduled for January 20 to attend the assembly session.

Regarding whether IUML will demand additional seats, he provided a measured response. "We will only seek the seats we deserve," he stated. "The parleys will be conducted only in a friendly manner." This suggests a cooperative approach to seat-sharing negotiations within the coalition.

The UDF appears determined and unified as they prepare for the crucial assembly elections. Their confidence remains unshaken by external political developments.
