Udhayanidhi Stalin Champions Dravidian Model's Achievements and Unveils Major Development Initiatives
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has passionately called upon the people of Tamil Nadu to ensure the continuation of the Dravidian model of governance, asserting that it has propelled the state to a leading position in India with an impressive 11.90% GDP growth. Speaking at an event held at the Palayamkottai Government Medical College grounds in Tirunelveli district on Thursday evening, he highlighted the transformative impact of Chief Minister M K Stalin's administration since assuming office in 2021.
Inauguration of Sports Academy and Infrastructure Projects
Earlier in the day, Udhayanidhi inaugurated and inspected the newly established Madurai Olympic Academy at the district sports complex, where he interacted with local sportspersons. This state-of-the-art facility, constructed at a cost of Rs 6 crore, features a comprehensive range of amenities designed to foster athletic excellence.
- A dedicated kabaddi court for traditional sports enthusiasts.
- Six table tennis courts to promote indoor sports.
- Three upgraded synthetic-surface tennis courts, converted from existing open-air facilities.
- Basketball courts, including one converted into a synthetic-surface court.
- An indoor sports arena equipped with 250 seats for spectators.
- Separate changing rooms for men and women to ensure inclusivity.
- A new gymnasium outfitted with modern fitness equipment.
This initiative underscores the government's commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure and supporting athletes across the region.
Emphasis on Welfare Schemes and Women's Empowerment
In his address, Udhayanidhi detailed the administration's focus on social welfare, particularly women's empowerment, which has been a cornerstone of the Dravidian model. He outlined key programs that have significantly benefited the populace.
- Education Initiatives: The breakfast scheme, providing meals to 32 lakh schoolchildren, and the Pudhumai Penn scheme, offering financial incentives to school girls pursuing higher education, highlight the government's dedication to educational advancement.
- Resource Distribution: To bolster student resources, the government has distributed 10 lakh laptops, facilitating digital learning and access.
- Economic Independence for Women: Through bank loan linkages totaling Rs 1.20 lakh crore for self-help groups, the administration has empowered women to achieve financial self-sufficiency.
Udhayanidhi assured that more such welfare schemes are planned under Dravidian Government 2.0, aiming to further uplift communities across Tamil Nadu.
Major Investments and Infrastructure Development in Tirunelveli
The deputy chief minister announced a series of substantial investments and projects earmarked for Tirunelveli district, designed to enhance urban development, cultural growth, and public services.
- A combined drinking water project worth Rs 606 crore to serve six unions, ensuring access to clean water.
- Another drinking water project valued at Rs 424 crore for Kalakkad municipality and neighboring town panchayats.
- Urban infrastructure projects including a bus stand costing Rs 85 crore, the Rs 50 crore Western Bypass Road, and the Rs 98 crore Kanyamigu Quaid-e-Milleth Library.
- Healthcare and cultural expansions: Rs 72 crore for the expansion of Nellai Government Medical College and Rs 56 crore for the Porunai museum.
Inauguration and Foundation Stone Ceremonies
During the event, Udhayanidhi inaugurated four completed projects with a total value of Rs 3.30 crore and laid the foundation stones for three additional projects worth Rs 57 crore. These initiatives include:
- A Rs 40 crore project focused on widening canals and improving the Kanjiparai dam to enhance water management.
- A Rs 16.25 crore extension of the groyne in Kooduthalai fishing village to support local fisheries.
- A Rs 75 lakh volleyball court in Panagudi to promote community sports.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of welfare assistance totaling Rs 109.01 crore to 18,830 beneficiaries across various departments, reinforcing the government's commitment to direct support for citizens.
