UP Police Now One of India's Best, Says CM Yogi at Constable Passing-Out Parade
UP Police Now Among Best in India: CM Yogi at Constable Parade

Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday declared that the Uttar Pradesh Police, once in a state of crisis before 2017, has now emerged as one of the finest forces in the country, asserting that the era of mafia rule has ended in the state. Addressing the passing-out parade of the 2025 batch of civil police constables at the Reserve Police Lines in Lucknow, Yogi highlighted significant improvements in the law-and-order situation, claiming that riots, extortion, and goonda tax have been eradicated. He noted that criminals now fear the law and police morale is at an all-time high.

Historic Recruitment Drive

The ceremony marked the induction of 60,244 constables, including over 12,000 women, the largest-ever recruitment by any state police force in India. Adityanath emphasized that the law should be as strict towards criminals as it is sensitive towards citizens. He expressed confidence that the new constables would uphold the proud traditions of the Uttar Pradesh Police. Congratulating the women personnel, he remarked that daughters have completed their training with strength, readiness, and discipline, which is commendable. He also recalled that on June 15, 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah distributed appointment letters to over 60,000 constables, whose training began on July 21 last year.

Nine Years of Transformation

The Chief Minister stated that over the past nine years, more than 2.18 lakh police personnel have been recruited, and over one lakh have been promoted. The police budget has tripled since 2017. He added that the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) personnel are being trained to match the standards of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and international agencies. Police personnel are also receiving training in practical efficiency and soft skills. Cyber police stations have been established in all 75 districts, with specialized training to combat modern cybercrime. The Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Sciences has been set up in Lucknow to train personnel in scientific investigation techniques.

Women Empowerment and Infrastructure

The proportion of women in the police force has increased from 13% to over 36%. The police have also contributed to economic growth by ensuring a secure environment, attracting investment. Adityanath emphasized that the more sweat shed during training, the less bloodshed later, and that discipline is the greatest strength of the police. He noted that before 2017, police barracks were in poor condition, often makeshift or tin-roofed. Now, high-rise residential and barrack facilities have been developed in 55 districts. Training centers have been upgraded, and the UP Police Training Portal has been launched. Physical training has been modernized with a Smart PT programme, and outdoor training now uses modern INSAS and SLR rifles instead of older .303 rifles.

Digital Training Initiatives

Referring to the Integrated Government Online Training (iGOT) platform, CM Yogi said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, five special modules have been prepared on the Karmayogi portal, with 32 more in development. During the recently conducted Sadhana Week, government employees completed 1.25 crore courses, placing Uttar Pradesh first in the country. The UP Police alone completed 28 lakh courses, ranking fourth among all states and departments.

Top Recruits Honored

The morale of the newly inducted constables received a boost after CM Yogi presented awards during the passing-out parade. Woman constable Neha Yadav emerged as the top performer, winning three awards, including Best All-Round and Indoor Topper. Sonam secured two awards, including Outdoor Topper, while Riya Singh Kushwaha received one. Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna administered the oath to the recruits and presented a memento to the CM. Neha Yadav, Riya Singh Kushwaha, and Sonam were declared first, second, and third parade commanders, respectively.
