Chennai: As Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) reaches out to minor partners in the DMK-led alliance for support to form a government in Tamil Nadu, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) is in no hurry to accept TVK's offer of a Cabinet berth without internal deliberations and advice from Left parties.
Senior VCK functionaries confirmed that TVK reiterated its promise of “a share in power and governance.” VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan summoned general secretaries D Ravi Kumar and Sinthanai Selvan to discuss TVK’s proposal. “We cannot take a decision based only on a ‘share in govt and power’,” he said.
Selvan stated, “The party will take the call on Thursday.” However, the meeting was later postponed to Friday due to a statewide protest by VCK, CPI, and CPM over the LPG price hike. The party said the VCK chief decided to meet with long-time partners — CPM and CPI — before taking a final decision.
VCK's cautious approach underscores its commitment to alliance politics and the need for broader consensus within the opposition bloc. The party's internal discussions and consultations with Left allies will be crucial in determining its response to TVK's overtures.
