Narrow Escape for Mother and Daughter in Overnight Blaze
A widow and her young daughter had a miraculous escape from a devastating fire that completely destroyed their thatched house in the early hours of Tuesday. The incident occurred in Manasigha Walitola village, located in the Rajmahal block of Jharkhand's Sahibganj district.
Timely Escape Prevents Tragedy
Noorjahan Bibi was asleep in her room with her daughter when the fire broke out. Showing remarkable presence of mind, the duo managed to slip out of the burning house just in time and immediately raised an alarm to alert their neighbours.
Villagers rushed to the spot and made valiant efforts to douse the flames. However, their attempts were in vain as the fire spread rapidly through the thatched structure. By the time fire engines could reach the remote village, the house and almost everything inside had been reduced to ashes.
Significant Losses Incurred in the Fire
The blaze resulted in substantial losses for the already struggling family. Cash and household goods worth thousands of rupees were completely destroyed. In a further blow, their livestock also perished in the flames, wiping out a critical source of sustenance and income.
The victim, Noorjahan Bibi, is now left with nothing and has made a heartfelt appeal to the district administration for urgent compensation and assistance to rebuild her life.
Local Leadership Steps In with Immediate Relief
Upon hearing the distressing news, former Nagar Panchayat Chairman Ketabuddin Sheikh visited the fire-ravaged site. He provided the affected family with immediate relief materials to help them cope with the immediate aftermath of the disaster.
When contacted, Rajmahal Block Development Officer (BDO) Mohammad Yousuf stated that the administration is ready to provide compensation. He clarified the process, saying, "The victim will be compensated once they submit a formal application detailing their losses." This application is the first step for the family to access government aid for their rehabilitation.
