26th All India Inter-NIT Sports Meet Begins at NITK Surathkal

The prestigious National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) Surathkal is currently the vibrant epicenter of athletic talent as it hosts the 26th All India Inter-NIT (AIINIT) Sports Meet 2025-26. The grand sporting spectacle was inaugurated on Friday and will conclude with a valedictory ceremony on Sunday, marking three days of intense competition and camaraderie.

Scale and Scope of the Premier Technical Institutes' Event

This edition of the meet is witnessing massive participation, bringing together 30 premier technical institutes from across the nation. This includes 29 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur. More than 850 student-athletes are competing for top honors in a range of sports including badminton, basketball, and ball badminton, showcasing a perfect blend of technical brilliance and sporting prowess.

Inspiration from Sporting Icons

The inaugural ceremony was graced by distinguished personalities from the world of sports. Dhanalakshmi Poojary, an Indian World Cup kabaddi player, attended as the chief guest, while international badminton player Ashok Poovaiah was the guest of honour. Dr. Anidev Singh, SAS officer from NIT Delhi, was present as the neutral observer appointed by the NIT Sports Board.

Addressing the young athletes, Dhanalakshmi Poojary shared her powerful journey of resilience. She spoke about overcoming injuries and multiple surgeries over a 15-year period to finally achieve her dream of representing India. She urged students to persist through setbacks and to treat failures as crucial learning opportunities. Poojary also highlighted the expanding career prospects in Indian sports, encouraging participants to consider sports as a serious professional path.

Ashok Poovaiah emphasized the foundational role of sports in building discipline, determination, and fitness. He stated that the challenges and failures he faced were instrumental in shaping him into a champion. His advice to the competitors was to remain humble in victory and steadfastly committed to their long-term goals.

Prof. B. Ravi, Director of NITK Surathkal, extended his gratitude to all participating institutions.
