Agra Administration Grants In-Principle Approval for International Indoor Sports Stadium
The Agra administration has granted in-principle approval to proceed with the establishment of an international indoor sports stadium in the city. This decision underscores Agra's global tourism profile and the emergence of international-level sports talent from the region, as confirmed by officials on Wednesday.
Key Decisions from the 151st ADA Board Meeting
The approval was finalized during the 151st board meeting of the Agra Development Authority (ADA), which was chaired by divisional commissioner Shailendra Kumar Singh on Tuesday. During this meeting, officials reviewed the authority's financial performance and future projections.
For the current financial year up to December 31, 2025, the ADA recorded total receipts of Rs 891 crore and expenditure of Rs 543 crore. Looking ahead to the 2026-27 fiscal year, the authority has projected receipts of Rs 1,549 crore and expenditure of Rs 1,174 crore, indicating a significant increase in financial activities.
Compliance and Land Management Initiatives
The board also reviewed compliance reports of earlier decisions and directed officials to take proactive measures to prevent encroachment on land transferred from the urban ceiling department across various parts of the city. To address this issue, interim measures such as fencing and the development of temporary parks were recommended to secure these areas effectively.
Infrastructure and Development Projects Discussed
Several critical infrastructure and development issues were discussed during the meeting. These included:
- Addressing stormwater drainage problems in the Shastripuram and UP State Industrial Development Corporation areas.
- Developing transit-oriented development zones under the Amrut geographic information system-based master plan.
- Allocating vacant units in the Shoe Plaza to optimize space utilization.
Progress on housing projects was also reviewed, with the commissioner directing a reassessment of pricing for unsold flats in the Shastripuram Heights project to enhance marketability and sales.
Additional Projects and Feasibility Studies
Other matters taken up in the meeting included:
- Evaluating the feasibility of establishing a logistics park to boost economic activities.
- Exploring PPP-based operation models for the Soorsadan auditorium to improve its management and usage.
- Developing a cultural venue at Mehtab Bagh to promote local arts and heritage.
- Reviewing major infrastructure projects, such as the second phase of the Agra Inner Ring Road and land acquisition for the Atalpuram township.
These discussions highlight the administration's comprehensive approach to urban development, balancing sports infrastructure with broader civic and economic initiatives to foster growth and sustainability in Agra.
