Loyalists of former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi have threatened to resign from their positions, escalating the internal turmoil within the Punjab Congress. The group is heading to Delhi to meet the party high command, seeking resolution to the ongoing crisis.
Threat of mass resignations
According to sources, over a dozen leaders close to Channi have submitted resignation letters to the Punjab Congress chief, expressing dissatisfaction over the party's functioning. The move comes amid reports of factionalism and power struggles within the state unit.
"We have full faith in the high command, but the situation in Punjab is untenable. We will present our grievances before the leadership," said a party insider, requesting anonymity.
Meeting with high command
The group is expected to meet senior Congress leaders in Delhi, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. The agenda includes discussions on the recent appointments in the state party unit and the handling of organizational matters.
"The high command is aware of the developments. We are hopeful that a solution will be found soon," added another leader.
Impact on Punjab Congress
The internal rift comes at a critical time for the Congress, which is already facing challenges from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab. Political analysts warn that continued infighting could further weaken the party's position ahead of the next state elections.
