Ancy Sojan breaks Anju Bobby George's long jump national record

Kerala long-jumper Ancy Sojan made history on Saturday by smashing the 22-year-old national record in the long jump, previously held by legendary athlete Anju Bobby George, at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar.

Record-Breaking Leap

The 25-year-old Sojan achieved a sensational leap of 6.88 meters, surpassing Anju Bobby George's long-standing national record of 6.83 meters set during the 2004 Athens Olympics, according to ESPN.

Sarvesh Kushare Also Sets New Mark

In the men's high jump event, Sarvesh Kushare also broke a national record by clearing 2.31 meters, exceeding Tejaswin Shankar's previous mark of 2.29 meters.

Championships Details

The championships are being held from June 24 to 28 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Several athletes have already secured spots for the Asian Games, including Dev Meena (men's pole vault), Jyothi Yarraji (women's 100m hurdles), Anushka Yadav (women's hammer throw), and Mohammed Afsal (men's 800m).
