Bihar Sports Minister Highlights Major Transformation in State's Sports Ecosystem

Bihar Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh declared on Saturday that the sports landscape in the state has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past five to six years. Speaking at a program organized by the BJP sports cell in Buxar, Singh strongly criticized previous governments for what she described as their failure to adequately support sportspersons.

Criticism of Previous Administrations

The minister specifically targeted the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), alleging that during their tenure, athletes in Bihar faced significant challenges. Singh claimed that sportspersons lacked proper platforms, essential infrastructure, and meaningful recognition, which forced many talented individuals to leave the state to pursue their athletic careers and achieve success elsewhere.

"Earlier governments failed to create an environment where our athletes could thrive," Singh stated. "There were no incentive schemes, no felicitation programs, and minimal support for players who represented Bihar's potential."

Current Government's Initiatives and Achievements

Singh emphasized that the current scenario has changed dramatically under the present administration. She highlighted several key initiatives that have been implemented:

  • Annual felicitation of sportspersons on National Sports Day (August 29)
  • Introduction of financial incentive schemes for athletes
  • Prioritization of sports infrastructure development across the state
  • Implementation of new sports policies designed to nurture talent

The minister expressed confidence that the results of these comprehensive efforts will become increasingly visible in the coming years, creating a more robust sports ecosystem throughout Bihar.

Local Sports Development in Buxar

During the same event, Varsha Pandey, State Women's Sports Convenor of the BJP Sports Cell and President of the Buxar District Cricket Association, presented a memorandum requesting a modern cricket ground or mini-stadium for the district. Pandey emphasized that while Buxar possesses abundant sporting talent, the area suffers from a lack of standard facilities for proper training and exposure.

"Our district has tremendous potential, but we need adequate infrastructure to develop our athletes properly," Pandey explained.

She noted that sports infrastructure in Buxar is gradually improving, mentioning that construction of a large stadium is currently underway with state government support. Pandey also highlighted the achievement of Anu Chaudhary, a native of Buxar, who played a crucial role in India's Blind Women's Cricket World Cup victory, as concrete proof of the district's sporting capabilities.

Minister's Visit to Educational Institution

Following the program, Minister Singh visited the Eklavya Residential School where she conducted a thorough review of both educational and sports facilities. The event attracted significant attendance from sports cell officials, active players, and enthusiastic sports supporters from the region.

The gathering served as a platform to discuss ongoing developments and future plans for sports promotion in Bihar, with particular focus on addressing infrastructure gaps and creating more opportunities for athletes at all levels.
