Kanpur: Efforts to breed lioness Sudha, who was brought from Haryana in May 2026, have been initiated at the Etawah Lion Safari. Authorities plan to first examine Sudha’s compatibility with two male lions, Simba and Sultan, before proceeding with the breeding plan.
Arrival and Quarantine
The lioness was transported from Rohtak Zoo in Haryana on May 18, 2026. Upon arrival, Sudha was kept in quarantine for 21 days, during which her health and behavior were continuously monitored. After the quarantine period ended, her blood sample was tested at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Bareilly. All test reports came back normal, and she has since been shifted to the Breeding Centre.
Breeding Process
Authorities stated that the breeding process will follow standard protocols and will be based on the mutual behavior of the animals. Both Simba and Sultan are Asiatic lions born at the Etawah Safari Park. Sudha was brought to the park to increase the lion population and strengthen the conservation program.
Exchange and Cubs
As part of the exchange, the safari’s lion Ajju was sent to Rohtak Zoo. Meanwhile, four cubs born to lioness Neerja on March 8, 2026, are being well cared for at the park.
