When Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B appeared in a Gillette Stadium VIP suite recently, fans noticed something interesting. She cheered for her boyfriend Stefon Diggs alongside New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft. This sight sparked curiosity about their past interactions.
A Shared History Emerges
Cardi B and Robert Kraft actually met years earlier. The "Bodak Yellow" singer danced with the Patriots owner at a Fanatics party during Super Bowl LIII weekend in Atlanta back in 2019. Cardi B was scheduled to perform at Michael Rubin's Fanatics event held at the College Football Hall of Fame that weekend.
Kraft's Approach to Hip-Hop Relationships
Robert Kraft doesn't force connections with the hip-hop community. He explained his philosophy during a 2019 radio appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub's "Toucher and Rich" program. Kraft emphasized building bridges naturally.
"Honest to goodness, I don't force it," Kraft stated. "We live in a world where all of us have to find ways to connect with everybody. There's good in every situation, and you try to understand it and relate to it."
He continued, "That's how you understand how the world works. You try to keep people together to win championships, which isn't easy." The Patriots had just defeated the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 to win Super Bowl LIII that year. This marked Tom Brady's sixth and final Super Bowl victory with New England.
The Memorable Dance Moment
What exactly happened at that 2019 party? Robert Kraft showed Cardi B some dance moves. The Patriots owner danced to Cardi B's performance of her hit song "Money." Kraft later described the experience with humor.
"Meek Mill kept saying, 'You gotta go out there. You gotta go out there. They don't think you can dance,'" Kraft recalled. "Once someone puts you on the defensive, they don't expect me to follow the beat, not that I had much rhythm."
He added, "I don't think most of my colleagues expect to see me Super Bowl weekend hanging with Cardi B and trying to show her a few moves." Cardi B co-headlined the event with rapper Meek Mill, who partners with Kraft on Reform Alliance. This criminal justice reform organization receives support from Jay-Z and Van Jones.
Six Years Later: A Changed Appearance
NFL aggregator Dov Kleiman recently shared a wholesome picture of Kraft and Cardi B taken six years after their initial meeting. Both show noticeable changes. The Patriots owner has reportedly lost some weight. Meanwhile, the "I Like It" singer sports her post-rhinoplasty look.
Cardi B's Nose Journey
Cardi B underwent rhinoplasty surgery in 2020. She had experimented with non-surgical nose fillers around 2018-2019 first. Those fillers unfortunately made her nose appear longer and wider. This prompted her to pursue corrective surgery.
"I always felt like I had a big nose," Cardi B told The Glow Memo's Michelle Villett. "Even before I was famous, I was like, 'Damn, I've got my daddy's nose.' I was always afraid to do my nose, and I finally took the step."
The rapper's relationship with football continues through her boyfriend Stefon Diggs. Recently, Diggs scanned stadium stands looking for Cardi B after the Patriots' 42-10 victory over the New York Jets. This shows their ongoing support for each other's careers.
