Chandigarh's Special Olympics Stars Shine with 4 National Medals

A contingent of determined athletes from Special Olympics Bharat, Chandigarh, has made the city proud by securing an impressive haul of four medals at the prestigious National Cycling Championship. The event was held in Bokaro-Dhanbad, Jharkhand, where seven athletes from the unit showcased their talent and grit across senior and sub-junior categories.

Medal Haul for Chandigarh's Champions

The championship witnessed outstanding performances from the Chandigarh squad. Tanveer Singh emerged as a gold medalist, claiming the top spot in the challenging 2 km senior category race. His victory set a triumphant tone for the team.

Adding to the medal tally, Purnima Sahni and Tushar both secured silver medals in the same 2 km senior event, demonstrating the depth of talent in the unit. The success continued in the sub-junior races, where Veronika Chauhan proved her mettle by winning two silver medals. She excelled in both the 500 m and the 1 km races, marking a remarkable double achievement.

Spirited Participation Across the Board

The team's strength was reflected in the participation of all its members. Other athletes from Chandigarh also put up strong fights in their respective events. Mohit Sachdeva finished fifth in the 4 km race and secured sixth place in the 2 km event. Fellow athletes Prince and Kartik also competed valiantly, each finishing sixth in their categories. Their participation highlights the inclusive and competitive spirit of Special Olympics Bharat.

The remarkable results were celebrated by the leadership of SOB Chandigarh. Dilpreet Sekhon, the president, and Sheetal Negi Sharma, the area director, attributed this success to the athletes' dedicated preparation and their involvement in structured sports programmes.
