Citroen Racing Announces Driver Lineup for Madrid Rookie Test

Citroen Racing has strategically combined fresh talent with seasoned experience for the upcoming Madrid Rookie Test in Formula E. The team has confirmed that Mercedes development driver Theo Pourchaire will return to the cockpit, joining debutant Joshua Durksen for the test scheduled on March 22 in Madrid. This move highlights Citroen's commitment to nurturing emerging drivers while leveraging proven skills.

Theo Pourchaire: Building on Past Success

Theo Pourchaire, a Formula 2 champion who impressed with a second-place finish in the Miami Free Practice earlier this year, expressed enthusiasm about continuing his Formula E journey. In an exclusive statement to FormulaE.com, Pourchaire shared, "It's fantastic to reunite with Citroen Racing for the rookie test in Madrid. My experience in Miami was incredibly positive, offering a deep dive into the unique dynamics of Formula E compared to other single-seater series. Since then, I've eagerly awaited another chance to drive and enhance my learning."

He outlined his objectives for the test, adding, "In Madrid, I aim to build on our Miami progress, assist the engineers with development tasks, and further master the car, tires, and energy management systems. I'm immensely grateful to Citroen for this opportunity and thrilled to get back behind the wheel."

Joshua Durksen: Embracing a New Challenge

Meanwhile, Joshua Durksen is poised for his Formula E debut, marking a significant step in his racing career. He remarked, "I'm incredibly excited to join Citroen Racing for the Madrid rookie test. Formula E represents a completely new frontier for me, and driving the GEN3 Evo car alongside such an experienced team is a remarkable opportunity."

Durksen emphasized his learning goals, stating, "My focus will be on absorbing as much as possible about the car, its systems, and team operations. The energy management and technical aspects present a distinct challenge from other single-seaters, so I'll be paying close attention. I thank Citroen Racing for their trust and will strive to maximize this experience."

Citroen Racing's Strategic Vision

Citroen Racing, which entered Formula E this season with main drivers Nick Cassidy and Jean-Eric Vergne, views the rookie test as a key developmental initiative. Team Principal Cyril Blais explained, "We're delighted to welcome Theo back after his outstanding performance in Miami. He quickly integrated with our engineers, provided valuable feedback, and showed strong pace, making his return a logical choice amid global motorsport calendar shifts."

Regarding Durksen, Blais added, "We're also eager to collaborate with Joshua, a driver we've monitored closely. Rookie tests like this are ideal for showcasing emerging talents in a Formula E setting, benefiting both him and our team as we advance the GEN3 Evo package development."

The Madrid Rookie Test is set to occur one day after the Madrid E-Prix on March 22, providing a platform for these drivers to shine and contribute to Citroen's ongoing progress in the electric racing championship.
