Himachal CM announces Rs 1 lakh reward for Everest summiteer

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for Ruchi Thakur, a resident of Tehsil Karsog in District Mandi, who successfully summited Mount Everest on May 21, 2026. Thakur met the Chief Minister at his official residence, Oak Over, in Shimla.

CM hails achievement as inspiration for youth

During the meeting, Sukhu congratulated Thakur and said that her accomplishment would inspire the younger generation to pursue excellence with determination and courage. He emphasised that the girls of Himachal are bringing laurels to the state through their exceptional achievements in various fields and serving as an inspiration for society.

Thakur’s family members were also present during the interaction. The Chief Minister shared details of the meeting on social media platform X, posting a photograph and stating that he had announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for her outstanding success.

Ruchi Thakur reached the summit of Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak at 8,848.86 metres, on May 21, 2026.
