PJ Hall's NBA Journey and G League Impact
PJ Hall, the former Clemson All-ACC standout, has taken a circuitous route to this new opportunity with Charlotte. After going undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft, he began his professional career on a two-way contract with the Denver Nuggets, appearing in 19 games during the 2024-25 season and averaging 1.7 points and 1.2 rebounds in limited minutes.
He then signed a similar two-way deal with the Memphis Grizzlies in July 2025 but saw minimal action, playing only 27 minutes across seven games before being waived in November to create a roster spot for Jahmai Mashack.
His fortunes changed after joining the Charlotte Hornets' G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm. Hall's performance there was a revelation. In 14 combined appearances for the Swarm and the Memphis Hustle, the 6-foot-8 big man posted impressive averages of 14.8 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.5 blocks in just 27.5 minutes per game. His shooting efficiency was notable, hitting 62.3% from the field. This strong showing earned him the call-up to the Hornets' main roster.
Addressing Hornets' Frontcourt Needs
The timing of this signing is crucial for the Hornets, who are dealing with injuries to their big men. Centers Ryan Kalkbrenner (left elbow sprain) and Mason Plumlee (right groin strain) were both sidelined for Tuesday's victory over the Washington Wizards.
This left Moussa Diabate as the only healthy true center. Although Diabate had a stellar game against the Wizards with 12 points and 18 rebounds, the team's need for reinforcement was clear. Hall's arrival gives head coach Charles Lee another viable option in the middle, especially if Kalkbrenner or Plumlee face extended absences.
To make room for Hall on their two-way roster, the Hornets waived forward Drew Peterson. The team, currently holding a 10-20 record, remains committed to evaluating young players while maintaining roster flexibility, a hallmark of their ongoing rebuild.
