Ludhiana Athletes Secure Coveted Spots on Panjab University Softball Team

In a significant achievement for local sports, numerous players from Ludhiana have earned prestigious positions on the Panjab University, Chandigarh women's softball team. This selection prepares them for the upcoming All India Softball University Tournament, which is scheduled to take place at Sant Gadge Baba University in Amravati, Maharashtra, from February 6 to 10.

College Champions Lead the Selection

The team composition prominently features talent from two leading Ludhiana institutions. From Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, the selected athletes include Nishu, Navdeep Kaur, Manpreet Kaur, Mehakdeep Kaur, Soni, and Amandeep. They are joined by Nazia, Kamla, Manveer Kaur, and Kajal from Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana. This collective representation underscores the city's growing prowess in collegiate softball.

Pathway Through Inter-College Championship

The selection process was directly influenced by the recent Panjab University, Chandigarh inter-college softball championship for women, held from January 29 to 31 at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sudhar. In this competitive event, the team from Guru Nanak Girls College demonstrated exceptional skill, clinching the gold medal, while Khalsa College for Women secured the silver medal. Their outstanding performances in this tournament were instrumental in earning them spots on the university's national squad.

The inter-college championship featured four teams in the league stage:

  • Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana
  • GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sudhar
  • Khalsa College for Women, Ghumar Mandi, Ludhiana
  • Post Graduate Government College (PGGC), Sector 11, Chandigarh
