Record-Breaking Performance

Chanu set a new Commonwealth Games snatch record with an 85 kg lift, improving on her own previous record. In the clean and jerk, she successfully lifted 82 kg on her second attempt after a failed first attempt, then cleared 85 kg to set another Games and Commonwealth record. Her final lift of 105 kg sealed the gold medal and completed a hat-trick of Commonwealth titles, having previously won in 2018 and 2022.

After the win, Chanu posted on X: "I am pleased with my performance and truly humbled to win my third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal at Glasgow. India's Medal Tally

Chanu's gold was India's third medal at the Glasgow 2026 Games. Earlier, Chanambam Rishikanta Singh won silver in the men's 60kg weightlifting with a total lift of 264 kg (121 kg snatch + 143 kg clean and jerk). He set a new Commonwealth Games snatch record of 121 kg, but Malaysia's Mohamad Aniq Kasdan matched that record and set a Games-record total of 273 kg to win gold. Kenya's Joshua Mboya took bronze with 260 kg. Para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar had earlier secured India's first medal, a bronze.

Chanu's hat-trick of gold medals cements her status as one of India's greatest weightlifters. She also won a silver medal at the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships and a bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
