MotoGP Eyes Bihar: Proposal for 2028 Race in Gaya-Bodh Gaya Region
MotoGP Proposal for Bihar's Gaya-Bodh Gaya Region

In a development that could transform Bihar into a global sporting hub, international motorsport figure Karel Abraham has formally proposed hosting a MotoGP race in the state. The founder of AVW Global Pte Ltd has sent a detailed proposal to the Bihar government for developing a world-class circuit in the Gaya-Bodh Gaya region, targeting the 2028 racing season.

The Proposal: A Vision for Bihar as a Motorsport Destination

In an email addressed to the state's Chief Secretary, Pratyaya Amrit, Abraham outlined a compelling case. He requested an opportunity to discuss how Bihar can establish itself as a premier destination for international motorsport. The proposal highlights the unique advantages of the Gaya-Bodh Gaya area.

Abraham emphasized that the region's international airport, consistent global tourist inflow, and availability of land ready for development create a perfect opportunity. He proposed building a FIM Grade-A certified MotoGP circuit, which would serve as India's flagship motorsport venue in the eastern part of the country.

The core idea is to integrate a high-profile global sporting event with one of the world's most significant spiritual and cultural centers. This fusion, Abraham argues, would create a unique proposition, elevating Bihar's international profile while delivering long-term economic benefits.

Massive Economic Potential and Government Review

An official from the Chief Secretary's office confirmed on Saturday that the proposal has been received and is under review. "The chief secretary has perused Abraham’s proposal," the official stated. This marks a significant first step in considering the ambitious project.

Abraham's submission included an economic impact study focused on MotoGP in India. The findings are staggering. The study indicates that MotoGP has the potential to generate one of the largest economic multipliers among global sporting events held in India. This is because it activates multiple sectors simultaneously, including tourism, hospitality, transportation, logistics, retail, media, and automotive research and development.

The inaugural Indian MotoGP race held in 2023, known as MotoGP Bharat, generated an estimated Rs 528 crore in direct economic activity. This included Rs 392 crore spent on local products and services, clearly demonstrating India's strong appetite for top-tier motorsport. The study projects that with better scheduling, enhanced international promotion, and improved tourism packages, the annual economic impact for a Bihar race could realistically reach between Rs 900 and Rs 1,400 crore per edition.

Why Gaya-Bodh Gaya? A Strategic Analysis

The proposal is backed by a site suitability analysis from AVW Global. It states that Gaya-Bodh Gaya offers Bihar an unprecedented chance to host one of the world's most prestigious sporting events while accelerating regional development. The analysis reiterates the strategic advantages: the international airport, an existing tourism base, available land, and immense potential for global visibility.

MotoGP is the pinnacle of motorcycle racing, broadcast in over 200 countries to a viewership of approximately 400 million. Hosting such an event would place Bihar firmly on the world map, not just as a spiritual destination but as a modern venue for international sport and commerce.

The proposal now rests with the Bihar government for consideration. If it moves forward, it could herald a new era of economic and infrastructural development for the state, creating jobs, boosting tourism, and providing a sustained source of revenue and global prestige for years to come.
