The city of Kanpur is set to come alive with the spirit of sports as it prepares to host the MP Sports Festival. The district-level event is scheduled to take place from December 22 to December 24, following a government mandate. The festival will bring together top athletes from across the district for a grand celebration of sporting talent.
Festival Details and Participating Sports
Providing key information about the event, ADM (City) Rajesh Kumar outlined the extensive lineup. The festival will feature competitions across eleven core sports disciplines. These include kabaddi, wrestling, volleyball, football, judo, badminton, weightlifting, athletics, kho-kho, Tug of War, and chess. In a significant addition, a cricket competition will also be part of the festivities, broadening the appeal of the event.
The selection process for participants is already underway. Sports competitions have been successfully completed in all the assembly constituencies of Kanpur district. The upcoming district-level festival will see contests among the players who secured the first position in their respective constituency-level events. Furthermore, athletes who have registered directly on the official MP Sports Festival portal will also be eligible to participate, ensuring a wide and inclusive pool of talent.
Venue Plan Across Green Park Stadium Complex
The iconic Green Park Stadium in Kanpur will serve as the central hub for all activities. Different venues within the sprawling sports complex have been allocated for specific events to ensure smooth execution.
The Green Park Main ground will be the arena for the fast-paced action of Kho-Kho, the strength-testing Tug of War, and various athletics events. Meanwhile, the Green Park Badminton Hall will host the strategic battles of chess and badminton, alongside the grappling techniques of wrestling.
Fans of contact sports can head to the Green Park Cricket ground to watch Kabaddi matches. Cricket enthusiasts will have matches spread across the Green Park Cricket ground and the Cricket Box. The Green Park Judo Hall and the Green Park Weightlifting Hall will be dedicated to judo and weightlifting competitions, respectively.
Organizational Leadership and Coordination
To ensure the successful organization of this multi-disciplinary event, Bhanu Prasad, the Regional Sports Officer, has been appointed as the nodal officer. All concerned officers have been directed to work in close coordination with the nodal officer to guarantee a seamless and well-executed festival. The district youth welfare officer has also been instructed to provide full cooperation for the event's success.
