Nagpur's DKM Girls and NASA Boys Triumph in Junior District Basketball Finals
In a display of youthful athleticism and strategic prowess, Nagpur witnessed two gripping finals at the junior district basketball championships held at Nagpur University courts on Wednesday. The girls' team from Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) staged a remarkable comeback to defend their U-18 title, while the boys' outfit from Nagpur Amateur Sports Association (NASA) secured a hard-fought victory to emerge as the new district champions.
DKM Girls Rally to Retain U-18 Crown in Nail-Biting Finish
The girls' final was a testament to resilience and teamwork. Nutan Bharat Yuwak Sangh (NBYS) initially dominated, taking a commanding 24-17 lead at halftime. However, DKM, led by the tournament's standout player, 13-year-old Netra Damke, orchestrated a stunning turnaround. Damke scored a game-high 15 points, supported by Pankhudi Bade with 14, Anaya Prabhune with 13, and Anandi Sonewane with 6.
Key to DKM's victory was their defensive strategy. After the break, the trio of Netra Damke, Sara Gulalkari, and Swara Palkar implemented a full-court triangular defensive trap, disrupting NBYS's rhythm and allowing DKM to claw back into the game. With just two minutes remaining, DKM turned the tables, clinching the title 53-51. The quarter-wise scores reflected their comeback: 7-8, 10-16, 18-15, and 18-12 in DKM's favor.
NASA Boys Overcome Spartan Challenge to Claim District Title
In the boys' final, NASA faced first-time finalists Spartan Basketball Academy in a closely contested match. Ishan Galande was the star for NASA, firing a game-high 24 points to lead his team to a 51-46 victory. Naman Tokar contributed 8 points, and Dheer Agrawal added 6, helping NASA end Spartan's giant-killing run.
The match remained neck-and-neck throughout, with NASA maintaining composure in the dying stages to secure the win. The quarter-wise scores were 13-9, 8-12, 12-11, and 18-14 in NASA's favor, highlighting the tight competition.
