Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra finished fourth in his season-opening event at the Doha Diamond League on Wednesday. The 28-year-old Olympic champion produced a best throw of 85.69 meters in his third attempt, which ultimately placed him fourth in the final standings.
Performance Details
Chopra, who has been recovering from a minor injury, showed steady improvement across his attempts. His opening throw was measured at 83.32 meters, followed by 84.21 meters in the second round before achieving his best of 85.69 meters in the third. However, he could not improve further in his remaining attempts.
Competition Highlights
The event was won by Grenada's Anderson Peters with a throw of 88.07 meters, followed by Germany's Julian Weber (86.89 meters) and Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch (86.28 meters). Chopra's performance, while not matching his personal best of 89.94 meters, was a solid start to his 2026 season.
Speaking after the event, Chopra expressed satisfaction with his performance given the early stage of the season. "It's a good start. I am happy with the rhythm and will work on improving in the coming competitions," he said.
Looking Ahead
Chopra is expected to compete in several more Diamond League events this season, with the aim of peaking for the World Athletics Championships later this year. His next scheduled appearance is at the Paris Diamond League in July.
The Doha event marked Chopra's first competitive outing since his silver medal at the 2025 World Championships. Fans and analysts will be watching closely as he builds towards the 2026 season.
