In a landmark initiative aimed at fostering a robust sports culture and providing a positive outlet for the youth, the Punjab government has embarked on an unprecedented mission to build sports stadiums in every village across the state. This ambitious plan was highlighted by Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh during an inspection visit on Wednesday.
Unprecedented Scale of Development
MLA Kulwant Singh announced that the state is witnessing the construction of approximately 3,300 sports stadiums across Punjab. He emphasized that this is the first time in the state's history that a government has placed the future and health of children at the core of its policy by planning such widespread sports infrastructure. The Mohali Assembly constituency is at the forefront of this development, with 32 ultra-modern stadiums currently being built within its limits alone. Singh proudly stated that Mohali district is leading the entire state in the pace of this stadium construction drive.
Focus on Saidpura Village Stadium
During his inspection of the under-construction stadium in Saidpura village, Singh provided specific details about the project. The village panchayat has shown full cooperation by providing nearly two acres of land for the stadium complex and an additional one acre for parking. The stadium, with an estimated cost of around Rs 35 lakh, is designed to be inclusive and modern.
The facilities will include a common room and separate, accessible washrooms for men, women, and persons with disabilities. Singh assured that the construction is on track and the stadium is expected to be completed within the next six months. Once operational, it will serve not only the youth of Saidpura but also those from neighboring villages, becoming a hub for sporting activities.
Holistic Infrastructure Upgrade
Beyond sports, the Bhagwant Mann-led government is also focused on strengthening basic infrastructure. Following the stadium inspection, MLA Kulwant Singh inaugurated the widening and upgradation work of the Sawara–Saidpura–Gidderpur–Chandiala road.
Addressing the public, Singh reiterated the government's commitment to comprehensive development. The 5.09-km-long road is being expanded from its current width of 10 feet to 18 feet. The total project cost is Rs 2.92 crore, which includes Rs 2.75 crore for construction and Rs 17 lakh earmarked for a five-year maintenance period. This road project is also slated for completion within six months and is expected to significantly ease commuting and reduce the risk of accidents for local residents.
This dual focus on sports infrastructure and essential civic amenities underscores the Punjab government's multi-pronged strategy to engage the youth positively, combat the scourge of drugs, and improve the overall quality of life for its citizens.
