The vibrant skies above Atal Sarovar in Rajkot became a breathtaking theatre of aerial mastery this Saturday. The Indian Air Force conducted a magnificent full-dress rehearsal, offering a thrilling preview of the much-anticipated Surya Kiran Air Show scheduled for Sunday.
A Patriotic Prelude and Ground Displays
Thousands of eager spectators lined the lakefront to witness the rehearsal. The event commenced on a stirring note with performances by the Air Force Band, their patriotic melodies resonating across the venue. Following this, the elite Garud Commandos demonstrated their prowess with an impressive exhibition of defence weapons and tactical skills, captivating the audience on the ground.
The Aerial Ballet: From Skydivers to Aircraft
The main attraction, the aerial segment, opened with a powerful flypast by the formidable C-295 transport aircraft. Shortly after, the Akash Ganga Skydiving Team took center stage. Leaping from an altitude of 8,000 feet, the skydivers executed flawless, synchronized formations, streaking the sky with vivid plumes of coloured smoke, a true testament to their precision and training.
Public Preparations for the Grand Finale
In anticipation of a massive crowd on Sunday, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has made extensive arrangements. The civic body has installed 20 large screens and over 30 sound towers around Atal Sarovar to ensure everyone gets a clear view and can hear the commentary. To manage the influx, they have designated seven dedicated viewpoints and arranged eight parking lots, with clear signboards to guide visitors and ensure smooth traffic flow.
For those interested in a closer look at the hardware, a static display featuring IAF weapons, equipment, and the Garud Commando showcase will be open to the public. This exhibition will be accessible in the Atal Sarovar parking zone from 12 pm to 6 pm.
The successful full-dress rehearsal has set the stage for what promises to be an even grander spectacle on Sunday.
