Dallas Stars' Tyler Seguin Out for Season After ACL Tear, Surgery Successful
Tyler Seguin Out for Season After ACL Surgery

In a significant blow to their championship aspirations, the Dallas Stars have lost star forward Tyler Seguin for the remainder of the NHL season. Seguin sustained a devastating ACL tear in his right knee during an overtime loss against the New York Rangers earlier this week.

A Season-Ending Blow for the Stars

The injury occurred during the contest on Tuesday, forcing the key player off the ice. The following day, Stars coach Glen Gulutzan delivered the grim news to fans and media. "We didn't get great news today," Gulutzan stated. "He's going to be out for a significant amount of time, probably the rest of the season." The team confirmed that Seguin underwent successful surgery to repair the torn ligament on December 16 in Dallas.

Road to Recovery and the Olympic Pause

While the surgery performed by a specialist was reported to have gone well, the road to recovery for an ACL injury is lengthy. The Dallas Stars have not set a definitive date for Seguin's return to play. The organisation plans to re-evaluate his recovery progress after the NHL's scheduled break for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina. The league will pause its regular season from February 6 to 24, 2026, marking the first Olympic participation for NHL players since 2014.

Seguin's Stellar Career and Current Season Stats

The loss of Seguin is a massive setback for the team's offensive firepower. This season, the centre had recorded 17 points (7 goals and 10 assists) in 27 games. He also celebrated a major personal milestone, playing his 1,000th NHL game on October 30, 2025. This feat was particularly commendable as he was limited to just 20 games last season due to hip surgery before making a strong comeback in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Over his illustrious career with the Boston Bruins and Dallas Stars, Seguin has amassed 826 points (367 goals, 459 assists) in 1,016 regular-season games. He has added 79 points in 151 playoff appearances and was a member of the Bruins' Stanley Cup-winning team in 2011.

Despite this setback, the Dallas Stars continue to be a formidable force in the league. With a record of 23 wins, 7 losses, and 5 overtime losses, they currently hold second place in the competitive Central Division. The team will look to maintain their momentum as they face upcoming challenges without one of their most experienced forwards.
