Indian golfers Yuvraj Sandhu and Shubhankar Sharma experienced a disappointing final round at the Turkish Airlines Open, slipping down the leaderboard after promising starts. The tournament, held at the Regnum Carya Golf & Spa Resort in Antalya, saw both players fail to maintain their earlier momentum.
Yuvraj Sandhu's Performance
Yuvraj Sandhu, who had been in contention after three rounds, carded a final round of 2-over 73 to finish at 6-under 278. This dropped him to tied 35th place. The 26-year-old from Chandigarh had started the day strongly but struggled with his putting on the back nine, missing several short birdie opportunities.
Shubhankar Sharma's Round
Shubhankar Sharma also had a tough day, shooting a 1-over 72 to end the tournament at 5-under 279, tied for 40th. The 26-year-old from Gurugram had three birdies and four bogeys in his final round, failing to capitalize on the par-5s. Sharma had been hoping for a top-10 finish to boost his European Tour ranking.
The tournament was won by Spain's Adrian Otaegui, who finished at 18-under 266, two shots ahead of the field. Otaegui's consistent play over the four days, including a final round 67, secured his third European Tour title.
Despite the setback, both Indian players have shown promise this season. Sandhu, a two-time winner on the Asian Tour, is looking to regain his form after a mixed season. Sharma, who has two European Tour wins to his name, will aim to bounce back in upcoming events.
The Turkish Airlines Open is part of the European Tour's 2023 schedule, attracting a strong field of international golfers. The event is known for its challenging course conditions and competitive atmosphere.
