The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced significant changes to the ODI squad for the upcoming England series, with pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and former captain Virat Kohli making a comeback. Three players who featured in the recent Afghanistan series have been dropped.
Key Returns and Omissions
Bumrah, who was rested for the Afghanistan series, returns to lead the bowling attack. Kohli, also rested earlier, is back in the middle order. The trio of Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, and Avesh Khan have been omitted from the 15-member squad after playing against Afghanistan.
Squad Composition
The squad sees the inclusion of wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, who replaces Samson. Hardik Pandya retains his place as the all-rounder, while Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj join Bumrah in the pace department. The spin duties will be handled by Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.
Impact on Team Balance
According to BCCI sources, the selection committee aimed to field the strongest possible combination for the high-profile series against England. “The returns of Bumrah and Kohli add immense experience and firepower. The team management believes this squad offers the right balance for the conditions,” a source said.
England Series Schedule
The three-match ODI series against England is scheduled to begin on July 12, with matches in London, Birmingham, and Manchester. India currently leads the ODI rankings and will look to consolidate their position.
