Ismaël Kone Expresses Gratitude and Faith After Injury
Canada midfielder Ismaël Kone has thanked fans and teammates for their overwhelming support after suffering a worrying injury during a FIFA World Cup 2026 match against Qatar. The 24-year-old was stretchered off in the second half at BC Place in Vancouver on Thursday following a heavy challenge from Qatar's Assim Madibo.
In an emotional Instagram post, Kone shared his gratitude and unwavering faith, stating that he trusts God's plan and views the setback as a test of character. "ALLAH has never failed me. Throughout my life, not even once. So why doubt him now?" he wrote, adding that every challenge is purposeful and that he is ready to overcome it.
Kone also addressed his teammates, saying: "To Canadian brothers, as I turned myself into an assistant coach to support you from the sideline. I wanted you to know that I love you guys from the bottom of my heart, and our brotherhood is everything to me." He promised to return soon and continue building memories with the squad.
The injury occurred after a tackle from behind by Madibo, which immediately drew concern from players and medical staff. Kone received treatment on the pitch before being taken off. Despite the setback, he remains optimistic and determined to recover fully.
