England have named their 15-man squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against India, with Harry Brook appointed as captain. The series is set to begin on July 7 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Brook to Lead Young Squad
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the squad on Tuesday, confirming that Brook will lead a relatively inexperienced side. The 25-year-old Yorkshire batsman has previously captained England in T20Is during the tour of the West Indies earlier this year.
Key players like Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, and Jofra Archer have been rested for the series, paving the way for several new faces. The squad includes uncapped players such as fast bowler John Turner and all-rounder Jacob Bethell.
Full Squad Details
The 15-member squad includes: Harry Brook (captain), Phil Salt, Will Jacks, Ben Duckett, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid, Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley, Gus Atkinson, Saqib Mahmood, John Turner, Jacob Bethell, and Dan Mousley.
According to ECB chief selector Luke Wright, "This series provides a fantastic opportunity to develop our depth. Harry has shown excellent leadership qualities, and we are excited to see him lead this group."
Series Schedule
The five-match T20I series will be played across three venues: Ahmedabad (July 7 and 9), Rajkot (July 12), and Mumbai (July 14 and 17). All matches are scheduled to start at 7:00 PM IST.
India, led by Rohit Sharma, will be looking to continue their dominant form in the shortest format. The two teams last met in a T20I series in 2022, which India won 2-1.
Key Absentees and New Faces
The absence of Buttler, Stokes, and Archer means England will rely heavily on Brook's batting and captaincy. Phil Salt, who has been in prolific form in T20 leagues, is expected to open the batting. Spinners Adil Rashid and Rehan Ahmed will lead the bowling attack.
John Turner, a 22-year-old fast bowler from Hampshire, earned his maiden call-up after impressive performances in the County Championship. Jacob Bethell, a 20-year-old left-handed batsman and left-arm spinner from Warwickshire, has also been rewarded for his consistent displays.
"We have a good mix of experience and youth. It's a great chance for players to stake their claim for future series," Wright added.
