Gorakhpur Cricket Stadium Gets Rs 63.39 Crore Funding Boost

The construction of Gorakhpur's International Cricket Stadium, which will be the fourth such facility in Uttar Pradesh, is poised to accelerate significantly following the release of the first instalment of Rs 63.39 crore by the state government on January 19. This crucial financial injection marks a pivotal moment for the ambitious sports infrastructure project, setting the stage for rapid progress in the coming months.

Project Details and Timeline

The stadium is being developed at Tal Nandaur along the busy Gorakhpur–Varanasi highway, with an estimated total cost of Rs 392.94 crore. Officials have confirmed that the project is scheduled for completion by December 2027, placing it on a clear timeline that will see Uttar Pradesh gain another world-class sporting venue.

With the release of the initial funding, the project has now transitioned into an active execution phase. Current work includes essential earth-filling and levelling operations that will prepare the site for more advanced construction activities in the near future.

Stadium Design and Capacity

The main stadium complex will occupy an expansive 45-acre area, with an additional 5 acres specifically allocated for allied facilities and support infrastructure. Designed to meet International Cricket Council (ICC) standards, the two-tier stadium will feature a substantial seating capacity of 30,000 spectators.

Cricket facilities will include seven main pitches and four dedicated practice pitches, ensuring the venue can accommodate both major matches and training sessions. Beyond cricket, the stadium has been conceived as a multi-purpose venue capable of hosting large non-sporting events such as concerts, cultural programs, and community gatherings.

Infrastructure and Development Impact

District Magistrate Deepak Meena emphasized that the stadium project, along with nearby developments including a veterinary college and Kanha gaushala, will significantly boost overall development in the region. This integrated approach to infrastructure development aims to create a comprehensive hub that benefits multiple sectors simultaneously.

The project will be executed in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode by the Public Works Department (PWD). This streamlined approach is expected to ensure efficient project management and timely completion.

Modern Amenities and Features

The stadium will incorporate numerous modern features including:

  • Contemporary stands and pavilions designed for spectator comfort
  • Parking facilities for approximately 1,500 vehicles
  • Solar panel installations for sustainable energy generation
  • Energy-efficient systems throughout the complex
  • World-class broadcast infrastructure for media coverage
  • Premium player facilities meeting international standards

This comprehensive approach to stadium design ensures that Gorakhpur's International Cricket Stadium will not only serve as a sporting venue but also as a model of modern, sustainable infrastructure development for the region.
