Chasing a modest target of 114, India reached 115 for no loss in just 11.2 overs. Gill remained unbeaten on 58 off 39 balls, while Jaiswal scored 54 not out off 34 deliveries. The pair added 115 runs for the opening wicket, ensuring India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Earlier, Zimbabwe were restricted to 113 for 8, with Ravi Bishnoi taking 3 for 15 and Mukesh Kumar claiming 2 for 12.
Implications for ICC Rankings
According to the ICC, India’s rise to No. 1 is a result of their consistent performances in bilateral series. “India have been outstanding in T20Is over the past year, and this ranking reflects their dominance,” an ICC spokesperson said. The victory also boosted India’s rating, pushing them ahead of England, who slipped to 267. Australia remain third with 260 points.
India’s previous stint at the top lasted until November 2023, before England briefly took over following their series win against New Zealand.

Shubman Gill, who has been in sublime form, credited the team’s aggressive mindset. “Our plan was to take the game deep and then accelerate. The pitch was a bit slow but we adapted well,” Gill said after the match. Spinner Ravi Bishnoi also played a crucial role, with his three-wicket haul dismantling Zimbabwe’s middle order. “I focused on bowling tight lines and letting the pitch do the rest,” Bishnoi remarked.

With the series already in the bag, India will look to experiment in the remaining three matches. Captain Hardik Pandya hinted at giving opportunities to fringe players. “We’re in a good spot.
