IPL Transfer Window: KKR, Rajasthan Royals Sound Out MI for Hardik Pandya Trade
IPL Transfer: KKR, Royals Approach MI for Hardik Pandya Trade

Hardik Pandya is on his way out of Mumbai Indians, with the five-time IPL champions receiving at least two feelers for a potential trade—one from Kolkata Knight Riders and the other from Rajasthan Royals, according to an IPL insider privy to the development who spoke to PTI on conditions of anonymity.

KKR's Interest and Captaincy Prospects

There have been multiple discussions between the top management of KKR and the owners of Mumbai Indians over a swap. KKR views Pandya as a potential captain, especially after Ajinkya Rahane's expected release. Rahane was always considered a stop-gap arrangement for KKR and is set to be released after this season.

KKR's top brass had initially approached MI owners towards the end of the last season, but talks were postponed due to Reliance's Annual AGM. However, KKR has again approached MI's top leadership, and several rounds of discussion have taken place, the source informed.

Trade Details and Rules

It is understood that if Pandya goes to KKR, either through an all-cash deal or a trade-off, the captaincy is there for the taking, as Rinku Singh is not considered a suitable option at this point. However, the source could not confirm whether MI prefers an all-cash deal or a trade-off for the star India all-rounder.

According to IPL transfer rules, a player cannot individually discuss a trade with any other franchise. Only franchise-to-franchise discussions are permitted, and a trade cannot occur without the player's consent. If the player does not give consent, he must be released back to the auction pool.

Rajasthan Royals' Offer

The second offer to MI is believed to be a trade-off between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Pandya, but it is unclear whether talks have progressed to an advanced stage. With Rajasthan Royals looking at Assam star Riyan Parag as a long-term captain, it would be difficult for Pandya to secure a leadership role there.

If Pandya's transfer materializes, KKR appears to be a far more viable option at the moment compared to Rajasthan Royals, given the captaincy opportunity.
