The Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026 will open on July 17 at Colombo's Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground, where defending champions Jaffna Kings face Galle Gallants in a night match. The sixth edition runs through August 8, featuring six franchises in a double round-robin format before playoffs at R. Premadasa Stadium, according to an official release.
Star-Studded Opening Weekend
Jaffna Kings, led by Sri Lanka's Bhanuka Rajapaksa and featuring Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, begin their title defence against Dasun Shanaka's Galle Gallants. The opening weekend continues with Kandy Royals, boosted by Indian international Vijay Shankar and England's Moeen Ali, taking on Dambulla Sixers on July 18. That same day, Galle Gallants face Colombo Kaps.

LPL 2026 brings together one of the most competitive line-ups ever assembled in the tournament. Kandy Royals boast Shankar, Moeen, Angelo Mathews, and Wanindu Hasaranga. The league received over 650 overseas registrations from 21 countries ahead of player selection, underscoring its growing global appeal.
Expanded Regional Engagement
Alongside international talent, LPL 2026 will strengthen local roots through expanded Sinhala-language commentary and broader regional fan engagement initiatives, aiming to bring the league closer to communities across Sri Lanka while showcasing local cricket culture to a worldwide audience.
