Zimbabwe Cricket has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, with the notable return of left-handed batter Milton Shumba after a three-year absence. The series is set to begin on July 10, 2026, at the Harare Sports Club.
Shumba's Comeback
Milton Shumba, who last played a T20I for Zimbabwe in July 2023, has been recalled to the squad following consistent performances in domestic cricket. The 24-year-old has scored 345 runs in 12 T20I innings at an average of 28.75, including two half-centuries. His return adds depth to Zimbabwe's batting lineup, which will be led by captain Sikandar Raza.
Shumba's inclusion comes after he impressed in the recent domestic T20 competition, amassing 420 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 135.48. According to Zimbabwe Cricket convenor of selectors, David Mutendera, "Milton has worked hard on his game and deserves this opportunity. His experience will be valuable against a strong Bangladesh side."
Squad Overview
The 15-member squad features a mix of experienced players and emerging talent. Skipper Sikandar Raza, who has been in fine form, will lead the side. Other key players include all-rounder Sean Williams, wicketkeeper-batter Regis Chakabva, and fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani. The squad also includes uncapped players such as 20-year-old pace bowler Ernest Masuku and batter Tadiwanashe Marumani.
Zimbabwe's squad: Sikandar Raza (c), Sean Williams, Regis Chakabva (wk), Milton Shumba, Blessing Muzarabani, Tendai Chatara, Luke Jongwe, Ryan Burl, Wesley Madhevere, Carl Mumba, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Ernest Masuku, Brandon Mavuta, Clive Madande, and Innocent Kaia.
Series Schedule
The three-match T20I series will be played on July 10, 12, and 14, all at the Harare Sports Club. Bangladesh, led by captain Litton Das, will be looking to build momentum ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup later this year. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, aims to improve their T20I ranking, currently placed 11th in the ICC T20I rankings.
Impact and Expectations
Shumba's return is expected to bolster Zimbabwe's middle order, which has struggled for consistency in recent series. In the absence of injured opener Craig Ervine, Shumba could slot in at number three or four. "We have a balanced squad, and the return of Milton gives us more options in the batting department," said head coach Dave Houghton.
Bangladesh recently played a bilateral T20I series against Afghanistan, winning 2-1, and will be confident. However, Zimbabwe has a strong home record, having won their last T20I series at home against Ireland in 2025.
Key Statistics
In T20Is, Zimbabwe has a win-loss record of 12-18 against Bangladesh. The last time the two teams met in a T20I series was in 2024, which Bangladesh won 2-1. Zimbabwe's highest T20I score against Bangladesh is 187/5, set in 2023.
The series is crucial for both teams as they prepare for the T20 World Cup. Zimbabwe will be eager to test their squad depth, while Bangladesh will look to fine-tune their combinations.
