Minerva Academy Football Club clinched the Helsinki Cup-2026 title with a solitary goal victory over tournament favourites HJK (Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi) of Finland. The Indian side avenged a narrow group-stage loss by displaying defensive resilience and tactical execution to lift the trophy.
Defensive Battle Ends First Half Goalless
From the opening whistle, both teams deployed highly organised defensive units, refusing to leave any room for error. Minerva's centre-backs worked to control midfield possession, while HJK's strikers sought opportunities on counter-attacks. Despite a series of intense exchanges and dangerous penetrations, the first half concluded in a 0-0 deadlock.
Rimoson's Decisive Strike in 37th Minute
The second half continued with equally exciting play. The decisive moment arrived in the 37th minute when Minerva striker Rimoson capitalised on a swift offensive sequence. Demonstrating composure under intense pressure, he navigated the HJK backline and slotted a shot past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
Defensive Resilience Secures Victory
After conceding, HJK mounted relentless efforts to equalise, but Minerva's defenders held firm, thwarting every attack until the final whistle. The victory not only avenged their earlier group-stage defeat but also marked a significant achievement for Indian youth football on an international stage.
