After winning the toss, Australia opted to bat first but found themselves in trouble at 44 for 3 in the sixth over. Captain Mitchell Marsh was the top scorer among the top three with 20 off 19 balls, including three boundaries. However, a crucial 97-run partnership between Renshaw and Tim David turned the innings around. David scored a brisk 45 off 26 balls, hitting two fours and four sixes.
Renshaw dominated the bowling attack, remaining unbeaten on 89 off 52 deliveries, with four boundaries and five sixes. His knock propelled Australia to a formidable total of 196 for 5 in 20 overs.
