Seattle Orcas Stun Washington Freedom with Record Chase in MLC 2026
Seattle Orcas Beat Washington Freedom in MLC Thriller

The Seattle Orcas produced a breathtaking batting display to defeat Washington Freedom by five wickets in a high-scoring thriller during Match 3 of the 2026 Major League Cricket season at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Chasing a daunting target of 217, the Orcas powered their way to 219/5 in just 17.4 overs, completing one of the most impressive run chases of the tournament so far and sealing victory with 14 balls to spare.

Freedom Post Massive Total

Asked to bat first, Washington Freedom came out firing from the outset. Mitchell Owen led the charge with a sensational 61 off just 25 deliveries, smashing 10 fours and two sixes to put the bowlers under immediate pressure. Mark Chapman ensured the momentum never dipped, unleashing a whirlwind 57 from only 24 balls. The left-hander struck four boundaries and four sixes as Freedom appeared set for a score well beyond 230.

Just when Washington looked destined for an even bigger total, Seattle fought back brilliantly through Ottniel Baartman. The South African pacer ripped through the lower order, finishing with outstanding figures of 4/33. Supported by Dasun Shanaka's three wickets, Baartman helped bowl Freedom out for 216 on the final ball of the innings.

Seifert Sets the Tone

Seattle's chase got off to a dream start thanks to Tim Seifert, who launched a brutal assault on the Freedom attack. The New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter blasted 78 off just 33 balls, clearing the ropes six times and ensuring the required run rate never became an issue.

While Seifert provided the fireworks, Matthew Breetzke played the perfect supporting role with a composed yet aggressive 66 off 36 deliveries. The South African steadied the innings through the middle overs before handing the platform to the finishers.

After a brief wobble, Dasun Shanaka delivered the knockout punch with a stunning cameo of 36 from only 12 balls. His late onslaught ensured Seattle crossed the finish line comfortably, completing a remarkable chase and handing the Orcas a memorable victory.
