Siraj on World Cup Snub: 'Dream to Play, But Hope Trophy Stays in India'
Siraj on T20 World Cup Snub: Hope Trophy Stays in India

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has opened up about his exclusion from the T20 World Cup squad. He admitted that playing in a World Cup is always a dream for any cricketer. However, he expressed strong support for the selected team, hoping they keep the trophy in India.

Siraj's Recent Form and Rest Period

Siraj was a key player in India's 2024 T20 World Cup victory. His contributions were crucial both on and off the field. Just a year later, he earned widespread praise for his performances in Test cricket. He helped a new-look Indian team draw a five-match series 2-2 in England.

Despite these achievements, Siraj's appearances in limited-overs cricket have reduced recently. This trend led to his omission from the 2026 T20 World Cup squad. He also missed India's last ODI series against South Africa.

Explaining the South Africa Series Absence

Siraj is currently leading the pace attack in the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand. On the eve of the decisive third match, he clarified his absence from the South Africa series. He stated he was rested due to a heavy workload from prior Test matches.

"I was rested in that ODI series against South Africa because I had bowled about 40 overs in the Test match before that," Siraj told reporters. "The match went the full five days. I played in the Australia series before that. As a fast bowler, rest is very important when you play Test matches regularly. There is a lot of workload. You refuel and then come back focusing on your rhythm and bowling."

Dream of Playing in a World Cup

Siraj acknowledged the disappointment of missing the T20 World Cup. He emphasized that participating in such a tournament is a lifelong aspiration for every player.

"I played the T20 World Cup last time but not this time," Siraj said. "Obviously, playing a World Cup is a dream for every player. But it's okay. The team that has been selected looks very good on paper. Everyone is in form."

Confidence in the Indian Team

Despite his personal setback, Siraj voiced full confidence in the Indian squad. He wished them luck and stressed the importance of retaining the trophy.

"I just wish them good luck," he added. "The trophy is here only for now, and it should stay here."

Siraj's comments highlight a mature perspective. He balances personal ambition with team spirit, focusing on India's collective success in the upcoming tournament.
