Karnataka Returns Land to KSIC T Narsipur Unit, Securing Brand's Future
Karnataka Returns Land to KSIC T Narsipur Unit

The Karnataka government has officially returned the land of the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) T Narsipur unit, which was previously taken over for a proposed stadium. The land is considered crucial for the survival of the KSIC mother unit and its brand.

Land Taken for Stadium Now Returned

The land, located in T Narsipur, Mysuru district, was originally acquired by the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports for the construction of a stadium. However, the project did not materialize, leaving the land unused for years. KSIC had been fighting for its return, arguing that the land was essential for its operations and the preservation of the iconic Mysore silk brand.

According to sources, the order to return the land was officially issued on July 3, 2026, by the state government. The decision follows prolonged negotiations and legal efforts by KSIC to reclaim the property.

Impact on KSIC Operations

The return of the land is expected to boost KSIC's production capacity and help revive the brand, which has faced financial difficulties in recent years. The T Narsipur unit is a key facility for silk weaving and processing, and the loss of land had threatened its viability.

“This is a significant victory for KSIC and the thousands of workers dependent on it,” said a KSIC official, speaking on condition of anonymity. “The land is vital for our expansion plans and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the brand.”

Government's Role

The Karnataka government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has been proactive in resolving the issue. The decision aligns with the government's broader efforts to support traditional industries and protect state heritage.

The Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports has confirmed the transfer of the land back to KSIC, with the condition that it will be used solely for industrial purposes related to silk production.
