A spectacular, unbroken double-century partnership between captain Yashika and Kavya Bhandooh propelled the Uttar Pradesh women's under-15 team to a commanding 160-run victory over Manipur in the Women's Under-15 One-Day Trophy. The match was played at the Jadavpur University second campus ground in Salt Lake, Kolkata, on Sunday.
Record-Breaking Partnership Steers UP to 261
Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, UP faced early trouble, losing two wickets with only 32 runs on the board. However, what followed was a batting masterclass. Captain Yashika anchored the innings with an unbeaten 97 runs from 101 deliveries, hitting 13 boundaries. She found the perfect partner in Kavya Bhandooh, who smashed a dazzling 124 not out off just 88 balls. Her explosive knock included 18 fours and a six.
Together, the duo forged a mammoth, unbroken stand of 229 runs, taking the UP total to a formidable 261 for 2 in their allotted 35 overs. The Manipur bowlers, Alice Thokchom and Linthoi, could manage only one wicket each.
Kalpana's Fiery Spell Seals the Deal for UP
Chasing a daunting target, Manipur's innings never gained momentum. Their top order collapsed dramatically, reducing them to 10 for 3 in the seventh over. Wicket-keeper Viviena offered some resistance with a 36-ball 39, including eight boundaries, but her innings ended with a run-out. Vigyapti (12) and Naznin (10) were the only other batters to reach double figures as Manipur was bundled out for 101 in 31.2 overs.
The chief destroyer for UP was medium pacer Kalpana, who registered an impressive five-wicket haul, conceding 35 runs. She was well-supported by Minakshi Yadav, Khushi Pal, and Arima Mishra, who picked up one wicket apiece.
A Commanding All-Round Performance
This victory was built on the foundation of two distinct, match-winning performances. First, the batting resilience and firepower shown by Yashika and Kavya Bhandooh set up an impregnable total. Second, the bowling unit, led brilliantly by Kalpana, executed their plans perfectly to dismantle the opposition batting line-up efficiently.
The comprehensive win underscores the strength of the UP side in the national age-group tournament and provides strong momentum for their upcoming fixtures.
