Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Poised for India Debut Against Ireland
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is likely to make his India debut during the first T20I against Ireland on June 26, 2026, according to team sources. The young batter has been in impressive form in domestic cricket, earning him a call-up to the national squad.
Match Details and Playing XI Speculation
The first T20I is scheduled to be played at The Village in Malahide, Dublin. India have named a relatively inexperienced squad for this series, giving opportunities to several new faces. Sooryavanshi's inclusion in the playing XI is expected to bolster the top order.
"He has shown great temperament in domestic cricket, and the team management is keen to give him a chance," a source close to the selection committee told India TV. The source added that Sooryavanshi's ability to play spin and pace makes him a versatile option.
Sooryavanshi's Domestic Credentials
The 22-year-old from Bihar has been a consistent performer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. In the 2025-26 domestic season, he scored 542 runs in 10 T20 matches at an average of 54.20 and a strike rate of 148.76. His performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) also caught the selectors' eye.
India's captain for the series, Hardik Pandya, confirmed that the team is looking to test new talent. "We have a clear plan to build depth in the squad, and players like Vaibhav deserve this opportunity," Pandya said in the pre-match press conference.
Ireland's Challenge
Ireland, led by Paul Stirling, will be looking to upset the visitors on home soil. The hosts have a balanced side with experienced players like Andy Balbirnie and Josh Little. However, India's bowling attack, featuring Umran Malik and Ravi Bishnoi, is expected to pose a tough challenge.
This is the first T20I between the two sides since 2023, and Ireland will be eager to improve their record against India.
