Jaipur Resident Lalchand Agrawal Names His Home 'Football Bhavan' in Tribute to Football Passion
In a unique departure from traditional home naming conventions, an 80-year-old man from Jaipur has christened his residence 'Football Bhavan', reflecting a lifelong devotion to the sport. Lalchand Agrawal, a former secretary of the Rajasthan Football Association, made this distinctive choice to honor his deep-rooted connection with football, which has been an integral part of his life for decades.
From Player to Promoter: Agrawal's Football Journey
Agrawal, who resides in Nehru Nagar, Jaipur, has a rich history in football, having served as captain of the Rajasthan football team and as coordinator of the Rajasthan Football Adhoc Committee. His passion for the game dates back to his early days as a player living in a rented house in Kishanpole Bazar within Jaipur's walled city. It was during this time that he resolved to name his future home 'Football Bhavan' if he ever built one. This dream materialized in 1970 when he constructed his house and officially gave it this evocative name.
A Museum of Football Memorabilia
The house is not just named after football; it also houses a small museum dedicated to the sport. This collection showcases an impressive array of football-themed items, including:
- Football-shaped shoes, trophies, and face masks
- Teddy bears, clocks, cups, and pencils
- Fans, balcony decor, paperweights, and keychains
- Photo frames, caps, and jerseys
Agrawal has amassed memorabilia from approximately 70 countries, such as Sweden, England, Brazil, Japan, China, Germany, France, Indonesia, Qatar, and Thailand. His family actively supports this endeavor, with his son, who served in the merchant navy, contributing souvenirs from his travels abroad.
Inspiration and Legacy
Agrawal drew inspiration from a similar house named 'Football Bhavan' that once belonged to former footballer S Mewalal in Kolkata. However, during a recent visit to Kolkata, he discovered that the original house had been sold and demolished. Now, his home in Jaipur stands as a unique tribute to that legacy. Passersby often stop to inquire about the story behind the unusual name, prompting Agrawal to share his football journey.
He expressed that football is inseparable from his life, stating, 'Football lives in my soul. I see its reflection in almost everything around me.' His family shares this passion, often watching matches together and contributing to the growing collection of memorabilia.
This story highlights how personal passions can shape everyday life, turning a simple residence into a symbol of dedication and love for a sport that transcends borders.
