In a tragic incident in Sasaram, a police constable deployed on traffic duty was allegedly run over by a sand-laden tractor on Saturday morning. The constable, identified as Mukesh Kumar, later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the Trauma Centre in Varanasi.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred near the S P Jain College turn under the Sasaram Town police station area. Constable Mukesh Kumar was posted at the city entry point to enforce no-entry restrictions on heavy vehicles. Around 9 am, he reportedly attempted to stop a sand-laden tractor from entering the restricted zone. However, the driver allegedly accelerated the vehicle, ran over the constable, and fled the scene.
Local residents and police personnel rushed the injured constable to Sadar Hospital in Sasaram. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to Varanasi, where he died during treatment.
Police Response and Investigation
Traffic DSP Amarkant stated that police teams are conducting raids to arrest the absconding driver and assured that strict action would be taken. After the incident, residents chased and intercepted the tractor, but the driver managed to escape. The police have seized the vehicle.
