GT Edge Past PBKS in Last-Ball Thriller at Narendra Modi Stadium

NEW DELHI: Gujarat Titans held their nerve in a tense finish to register a four-wicket win over Punjab Kings, chasing down 164 with just one ball to spare in a thrilling IPL 2026 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

With 11 runs needed in the final over, Washington Sundar kept his cool and sealed the game in style, scooping Marcus Stoinis for a six over deep backward square leg. Sundar remained unbeaten on 40 off 23 balls, guiding Gujarat to victory in a pressure chase.

The win sparked wild celebrations in the Gujarat Titans dugout. Cameras also caught head coach Ashish Nehra's wife, Rushma, joining in the jubilant scenes.

Earlier, Punjab Kings had recovered well after losing two wickets in the first three balls to post 163/9. Gujarat Titans completed the chase with a ball to spare in a closely fought contest.

Despite the defeat, Punjab Kings remain in a strong position on the points table, even after back-to-back losses against Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat. They still hold a one-point lead over Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Titans. Punjab have played nine matches, winning six, and sit on 13 points with a net run rate of +0.855.

"I think in chases like these, we would have liked to not take it as deep as it went but two crucial points. This is not the kind of wicket where we'll chase in 15-16 overs. So we thought maybe one over before or a couple of overs before. That was the talk," GT skipper Shubman Gill said after the match.

"If someone is set they should go deep because it's not easy to hit from ball 1. Length balls weren't coming the way they do on other wickets. It was important for the batsman who is set.. luckily we had Washi and he finished the game for us. Just sent the best batter that we thought in that situation (about sending left-handers one after the other)," he added.

Gujarat Titans will next face Rajasthan Royals on May 9.
