Raphinha Diagnosed with Right Thigh Muscle Injury
Brazilian winger Raphinha has sustained a muscle injury to the back of his right thigh, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed on Saturday. The injury occurred during Brazil's 3-0 victory over Haiti in a FIFA World Cup 2026 group stage match in Philadelphia.
According to a CBF statement quoted by Reuters, an imaging examination conducted earlier in the day revealed the extent of the damage. Raphinha limped off the pitch in the first half after experiencing discomfort, adding to his recent fitness struggles.
Fourth Hamstring Issue in a Year
This setback marks the fourth hamstring problem for the 28-year-old forward in the past 12 months. He missed 23 matches for Barcelona last season due to similar issues. In March, Raphinha suffered a comparable injury during a friendly against France while on international duty, sidelining him for over a month.
The CBF confirmed that Raphinha will undergo an intensive rehabilitation program under the supervision of the Brazil national team's medical staff. "The player will follow an intensive treatment protocol, monitored by the Brazilian national team's medical staff, with the aim of facilitating his recovery and return to action as soon as possible," the statement read.
Match Details: Brazil 3-0 Haiti
Brazil secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Haiti at the FIFA World Cup 2026, bouncing back from their opening 1-1 draw against Morocco. Carlo Ancelotti's side dominated from the start. Matheus Cunha opened the scoring from close range after Vinicius Junior's shot was parried, then added a second with a powerful finish from a precise Vinicius assist. Vinicius Junior scored the third before half-time with a composed finish after breaking through Haiti's high defensive line.
Despite Raphinha's early exit, Brazil controlled the match. In the second half, Haiti showed more attacking intent, with Ricardo Ade's header well saved by Alisson Becker. Brazil had a fourth goal from Endrick ruled out for offside.
Group Standings and Impact
The win puts Brazil on four points from two matches, level with Morocco but ahead on goal difference, positioning them strongly for qualification to the Round of 32. Raphinha's absence will be a concern for Ancelotti, as the winger's pace and creativity have been key to Brazil's attacking options.
