The Centre of Excellence on Bioprospecting of Ethno Pharmaceuticals of Southern Odisha (CoEBESO), in collaboration with the biotechnology department of Berhampur University, launched a month-long summer internship for biological sciences students on Monday.
Program Details
Altogether 53 students from first and final year PG courses and Plus III from 13 universities across Odisha and neighboring states are attending the program, titled “Modern Bioanalytical Techniques in Phytocompound Research: A Bioprospecting Framework.”
Inauguration and Key Speakers
Vice-chancellor Asima Sahu inaugurated the program and urged students to tap the region’s rich bio-resources and make the most of the hands-on training for their future careers. PG Council chairman Sukant Kumar Tripathy highlighted the long-term academic and research benefits of the program. CoEBESO coordinator Jogeswar Panigrahi outlined the internship modules and facilities available at the centre, while Sushil Kumar Pathak, deputy coordinator and head of biotechnology, was also present.
Selection Process and Sponsorship
Panigrahi said 53 students were selected from 170 applicants representing 20 institutes nationwide. The internship is sponsored by the state higher education department. The program will continue till June 6.
Additional Internship for Undergraduates
In addition, the university has organized a separate 21-day internship for undergraduate students, with around 750 participants from 40 colleges.
