Chennai MTC Launches Digital Bus Passes on Chennai One App
Chennai MTC Rolls Out Digital Monthly Bus Passes

In a significant move toward digital transformation, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) in Chennai has officially launched digital versions of its popular monthly bus passes. The initiative aims to revolutionize how commuters access and use public transportation in the city.

Digital Tickets Launched to Reduce Queues

On Thursday, Transport Minister S S Sivasankar formally inaugurated the new digital pass service at the MTC headquarters located in Pallavan House. The corporation has introduced two types of digital passes: the 1,000 'golden ticket' and the 2,000 'diamond ticket', both now available through the Chennai One mobile application.

The new digital passes allow commuters to purchase and activate a 30-day pass at any time, providing unprecedented flexibility for daily travelers. Payments can be conveniently made using UPI, debit cards, or credit cards, eliminating the need for physical cash transactions.

Convenience and Accessibility for Commuters

MTC officials emphasized that the primary goal of this digital initiative is to reduce long queues at bus depots and make monthly passes accessible from anywhere in the city. Commuters can now avoid the hassle of visiting physical locations and instead manage their travel passes directly from their smartphones.

The project has been developed in collaboration with the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA), marking another step in Chennai's ongoing efforts to modernize its public transportation infrastructure.

Recognition for Excellence in Public Transport

The launch event also served as a platform to celebrate Chennai's recent achievement in the urban mobility sector. Transport Minister Sivasankar presented awards to MTC staff members following Chennai's recognition as the 'Best Public Transport System City' at the Urban Mobility India conference held in Haryana earlier this month.

The ceremony was attended by several senior officials including MTC Managing Director T Prabhushankar and CUMTA Member-Secretary I Jeyakumar, highlighting the importance of this digital transformation project for the city's transportation ecosystem.

This digital move comes as part of Chennai's broader strategy to enhance commuter experience and embrace technological solutions that make public transportation more user-friendly and efficient for the city's growing population.
