Customs Seizes 155g Gold Hidden in Saree at Trichy Airport

Trichy: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the customs department at Trichy International Airport foiled a gold smuggling attempt on Thursday. Officials intercepted a woman passenger arriving on an IndiGo flight and recovered six pieces of 24-karat gold weighing 155 grams.

Gold Hidden in Saree Knot

According to a customs statement, the gold was concealed in fragmented chain form inside the knot of the woman’s saree. The contraband was seized, and an investigation has been launched.

Second Major Seizure This Month

This marks the second significant gold seizure at Trichy airport in September. Earlier, the AIU team recovered six abandoned gold bars weighing 600 grams from the lavatory of an aircraft arriving from Singapore.
