Fake edible oil racket busted in Daltonganj, 1,776 litres seized

Daltonganj: A network involved in selling spurious edible oil of a popular brand was busted late Wednesday night, with 138 boxes containing 1,776 litres seized from a godown near Bairya Chowk, police said.

Company Noticed Sales Decline

Sources revealed that the oil manufacturing company authorities noticed a sharp decline in sales. An internal probe indicated possible trade malpractice, prompting them to seek police assistance.

Police Action

Sadar SDPO Rajesh Yadav stated, “Acting on a written complaint filed by the company’s legal agency, a case was registered with the Daltonganj town police against the wholesale dealer under provisions of the Trade Act, the Copyright Act and the BNS.”

“Samples would be sent to the state food and drug testing laboratory in Ranchi for analysis. We are also investigating the retail outlets,” he added.

Household Check for Oil Quality

Food safety personnel suggested a simple household check called the ‘freeze test’ to understand oil quality. If the oil solidifies in a refrigerator, it may indicate contamination or adulteration.
